Small children, big laughs

I have to say that even though life is not exactly ‘easy’ when you’ve just spent all your savings on the gas and electric bills plus the car MOT and service, and your work feels like it’s squeezing the very breath out of you with anxiety (I mean, how hard is it for exam boards to check the questions they set?!), small children are pretty good at making you laugh.

Exhibit 1: Watching Raiders of the Lost Ark (carefully edited and pruned!), we come to the final scenes where the ark is opened.ย  Feeling a bit wary of whether this might be too much, Teddy sees the lights and smoke in the ark, sighs, rolls his eyes and says…”oh great.ย  Here comes God.”

Exhibit B: Taking Billy to see the stage production of the wonderful We’re Going On A Bear Hunt.ย  He danced in the aisle, waved, shouted, threw himself around in pure ecstasy and enjoyment of the experience.ย  Afterwards, his best bit was…”the ice cream”.

๐Ÿ™‚

Exhibit C: Having a bit of a go at George for repeatedly failing to take cups, plates, bowls etc. to the kitchen and leaving them on the arm of the sofa; thirty seconds later, there’s a loud smash as Sam pushes off the cup George has left on the arm of the sofa and it breaks into a million pieces.ย  George looks up and shouts “well, that’s not MY fault!”.

๐Ÿ™‚

Exhibit D: Sam saying “ah lub oo” to me the other day.

๐Ÿ™‚

Exhibit E: Billy’s batcrap crazy bedtime stories.ย  Yesterday’s one was about a pretty mummy called Katy and her beautiful son Billy.ย  Katy was kidnapped by a lion which was then attacked by an owl when Billy kicked the owl and pulled off its wings (????) so it got thinner and thinner and thinner.ย  Then we all lived happily ever after.

๐Ÿ™‚

Exhibit F: Teddy being sent to his headteacher to celebrate the most amazing piece of writing.ย  He was so proud of himself that he strutted like a catwalk model for an entire afternoon.

๐Ÿ™‚

Exhibit G: George winning a Maths award at school and strutting like a catwalk model for an entire afternoon.ย  He put the certificate up on the mantelpiece and keeps drawing out attention to it.

๐Ÿ™‚

Exhibit H: George feeling blue after being ostracised by his classmates at school and Teddy comforting him by climbing into his bed and reading him a story.ย  If that’s not adorable, I don’t know what is.ย  Teddy also said he was going to be George’s ‘defender’ when he starts at the same school in September.

๐Ÿ™‚

Exhibit I: George on the phone to my dad, asking Dad to teach him cricket.ย  His manners were impeccable which – for a kid with moods more volcanic than an actual volcano – was quite startling: “And how are you?ย  And Great-Grandma?ย  Yes, yes, I’m fine thanks…”.ย  Gobsmacking.

๐Ÿ™‚

Exhibit J: Sam and Billy tickling each other in imitation of the ‘fluffies’ on Numberblocks, which they both love.ย  They’re starting to bond a lot now, and Dave says Sam reminds him to pick up ‘Bibby’ at 3 o’clock every day (as if Dave would forget to pick up his favourite child!).
